The document, voted for by 367 deputies, calls for urgent measures to combat rising apartment prices, supply shortages and declining living standards in all countries of the bloc.

There is not enough housing in the EU countries to meet demand, especially in large cities. This has led to an increase in real estate prices and rental rates. According to experts, in some places rental rates have increased by more than 30% in recent years. The construction of new houses is difficult due to high costs, lack of land and lengthy approval procedures.
European parliamentarians blame the housing crisis on short-term rental platforms: it has become more difficult to find long-term rental housing in many cities. At the same time, investment properties and country houses further increase prices for local residents.
Governments are now having to take measures to protect tenants, encourage new construction, expand social housing, and renovate old buildings. Due to the lack of affordable housing, it is becoming increasingly difficult for people to improve their financial situation, keep in touch with the local community and enjoy a high quality of life.
