For the third time in a row, Vienna is leading the ranking of the most liveable cities in the world according to the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU).
The organizers of the study analyzed 173 cities, evaluating them according to more than 30 parameters grouped into five categories: stability, health, culture and environment, education, infrastructure.
In 2024, the top 10 best cities to live in looks like this:
- Vienna, Austria
- Copenhagen, Denmark
- Zurich, Switzerland
- Melbourne, Australia
- Calgary, Canada
- Geneva, Switzerland
- Sydney, Australia
- Vancouver, Canada
- Osaka, Japan
- Auckland, New Zealand
In Eastern Europe, Moscow is ahead of Istanbul, Tashkent and (by a slight margin) Belgrade, but lags behind Bratislava, Prague and Budapest.
North America scored the highest average score in education. However, estimates for infrastructure in Canada were lower than a year earlier due to the "acute housing crisis" affecting several regions.
"In Australia and Canada, the availability of rental real estate is at an all-time low, and purchase prices continue to rise despite rising interest rates," the report says.
At the bottom of the list, little has changed: Damascus (Syria), Tripoli (Libya), Algeria (Algeria) and Lagos (Nigeria).
