Vietnam has introduced amendments to the Citizenship Law, which allow both Vietnamese citizens living abroad and foreigners to have dual citizenship. This is done in order to attract more qualified workers to the country.
Thus, applicants for a Vietnamese passport will not have to renounce their foreign citizenship.
Moreover, the amendments to the law abolish the requirements for language proficiency and the minimum period of residence in the country.
Vietnam is undergoing the largest reform in the last 40 years, which includes changes in legislation, government structures and a softening of the investment regime to stimulate economic growth.
