Elon Musk confirmed last week that the Trump administration's $5 million gold card is being tested before its public launch. "We are conducting quiet testing to make sure that the system is working properly," Musk wrote on a social network, responding to a post about the program. "As soon as it is fully tested, it will be presented to the public with a presidential statement."
The confirmation from the head of the Department of Efficiency was the first official recognition of the program's active development since WIRED reported last week that the card already appears on U.S. immigration forms, including the Global Entry application system.
Trump stated that he prefers to rename the "golden card" to the "Trump card", explaining that the "Trump card" sells much better than the "gold card". In April, he showed reporters a physical version of the card with his image.
Musk's confirmation indicates that testing is nearing completion, and the program is apparently ready for an early public launch, although the administration has not announced a specific date.
